Let’s face it, as small business owners we tend to panic when any good employee walks into our office to tell us they are moving on.  We have found this response to be escalated beyond panic when it’s the IT person!  When this happens, notice we didn’t say IF this happens, don’t panic because everything will be alright.

Let me explain that last sentence in a little more detail.  The “when” VS “if” should probably be clarified.  Small business owners tend to hire one of two different types of IT people “the seasoned vet” or “the greenhorn.”  Both have their pros and cons so we’re not going to get into a lengthy explanation on which one is the better hire, because by then end of this blog you will realize that the answer is neither!  The seasoned vet is going to get a lot of work done upfront, but when the major projects are done he/she will get bored and start looking for something else.  The greenhorn will take a bit longer to get up to speed and make some mistakes along the way, but in the end will just be using you as a Launchpad for the next step in his/her career.  It’s just a natural progression, so when your IT person leaves you are back to step one.

Now, we know what you are thinking, you will just choose whichever you feel is the lessor of two evils, but we urge you to think again because you don’t have to deal with this daily risk in your organization because the small business IT landscape is changing.  More and more small business owners are realizing all the benefits of outsourcing their Information Technology to Managed Service Providers and seeing the rewards that come in doing so.

Our intention is not to list all of the things that Managed Service providers do from a technology standpoint, but rather why it is a better solution to onsite IT staff.  We believe the answer is simple – minimize risk and maximize knowledge while saving money!  This sounds too good to be true, right?  By outsourcing you are getting an IT Staff vs and IT Person.  This concept both minimizes risk, by eliminating the employee leaving the company factor, and maximizes knowledge, because your Managed Services provider has employees that are SME’s (subject matter experts) in all areas of IT.  The benefit to you, as a business owner, should be obvious so now we will explain the last piece, saving money.  By spreading our workloads over many organizations we can provide these services much more cost-effectively than you can hire a full time staff of IT experts.  Simple, right?

So, the next time your organization is faced with this dilemma, drop us a line and let us eliminate this burden for good so you can focus on what you do best, your business.
